Who We Are

We are a community of followers of Jesus Christ committed to live by faith, to be known by love, and to be a voice of hope. The name of our community comes from the diversity of our members and from the symbolism of a broken and fragmented humanity which can become a work of beauty under the artful hands of God.

To live by Faith, to be known by Love, and to be a voice of Hope.

To be a spiritual reference point throughout Sheffield, and a sending base to the ends of the Earth.

Mosaic has five core values - Wind, Water, Wood, Fire, and Earth - that shape the environment and ethos we look to have as a community. More »

The absolute best way to understand and learn about any community is to experience it on the relational level. Statements of faith can tell you what a community of faith’s beliefs are, but they can’t tell you who they are. If you’d like to discover who we are at Mosaic, please come to one of our gatherings on Sundays. Details of when and where we're meeting can be found by checking out the latest news, or following us on Twitter or Facebook.

With that said, we do as a community hold to the ancient creed known as the Apostles' Creed.

Mosaic has five core values that shape the environment and ethos we look to have as a community.

Wind: Mission is why the church exists (Commission)

  • The Church is a movement, not an institution.
  • Every follower of Jesus is commissioned by God.

See: John 3:1-8, Acts 1:8; 8:1-14, Acts 2, Acts 8:26-40, Luke 4:14-21, Genesis 2:4-7, Ezekiel 37:1-10, Mark 4:41

Water: Love is the context for all mission (Community)

  • The Church is relational, not programmatic.
  • Every follower of Jesus is part of a larger community.

See: John 4, John 13:34-35, 1 John 4:7-21, Psalm 42:1, Psalm 1:1-3, Isaiah 32:1-3, Isaiah 58, John 7:25-44

Wood: Structure must always submit to spirit (Connection)

  • The Church is empowering, not controlling.
  • Every follower of Jesus is called and connected uniquely to serve.

See: 1 Corinthians 12, John 15:1-17, Romans 11, Matthew 9:14-17, Romans 12:3-8, John 15:2, Jeremiah 31:31, 2 Corinthians 3

Fire: Relevance to culture is not optional (Communion)

  • The Church is incarnational, not esoteric.
  • Every follower of Jesus celebrates communion with God.

See: John 1:14, Philippians 2:5-9, Acts 17:16-34, Romans 12:1-2, Genesis 22, Exodus 3, 1 Kings 18:16-39, Psalm 51, 1 Corinthians 9:19-23, Hebrews 12:29, 1 Corinthians 14

Earth: Creativity is the natural result of spirituality (Character)

  • The Church is transforming, not conforming.
  • Every follower of Jesus grows in Christ-like character.

See: Matthew 25:14-30, Luke 8:4-15, 2 Corinthians 5:17-21, Ephesians 4:17-5:2, Genesis 2:7, Isaiah 64:8, 2 Corinthians 4:7-11

Whilst a statement of beliefs is not the best way to get to know who we are as a community, the Apostles' Creed does reflect the core beliefs Mosaic's overseers hold to and which we look to promote:

  • We believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth:
  • And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord:
  • Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary:
  • Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead and buried: He descended into hell:
  • The third day he rose again from the dead:
  • He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty:
  • From there he shall come to judge the living and the dead:
  • We believe in the Holy Spirit:
  • We believe in the holy catholic church: the communion of saints:
  • The forgiveness of sins:
  • The resurrection of the body:
  • And the life everlasting.
